Meeting Date and Time:   First Wednesday of each month, 7:45 AM

 

Overview: 

·         Continue to assess the effectiveness of community substance abuse prevention initiatives directed towards youth.

·         Establish and maintains a system for continual data collection and evaluation of alcohol and other drug abuse within Sheboygan County.

·         Look to strengthen local ordinances regarding alcohol and other drug misuse and abuse

·         Disseminate prevention information

·         Serve as a catalyst for increased citizen participation

·         Enhance community efforts to promote and support the use of evidence based prevention programming.

·         Serve as the advisory group for the Drug Free Community Support project.

 

Committee Goals: 

Our committee goal is to create an environment that is supportive of a drug free lifestyle. We are working on preventing illegal and irresponsible alcohol use while working towards a safe and balanced alcohol environment.  We plan to do this by reducing substance use and abuse by youth and adults and strengthening collaboration of prevention efforts within our community.

 

Accomplishments: 

·         Participated in medication drop off events throughout Sheboygan County

·         Collaborated with law enforcement to establish permanent medication drop off sites

·         Presented to various groups about substance abuse concerns

·         Established the Sheboygan Parent Network

·         Created HSC AODA website

·         Member received Harold H Hughes Award of Excellence in Exceptional Rural Professional

·         Hosted several Town Hall Meetings to address concerns regarding underage drinking.

·         Addressed substance abuse issues in Letters to the Editor of various newspapers.

·         Represented coalition contributions on a national webcast panel addressing Cracking the Cocaine Habit.

·         Hosted presentations by  national speaker John Underwood presenting on the impact of alcohol on student athletes

 

As the committee moves forward: 

·         Continue outreach efforts through presentations, social media, and community events.

·         Promote the implementation of the Life of an Athlete program with local schools.

·         Continue to support evidence based prevention program such as Botvins LifeSkills, Project Northland, and Parent-to-Parent.

·         Sponsor Responsible Beverage Service Training by reimbursing servers upon completion of training.

·         Promote the use of Screening, Brief Intervention, Referral, and Treatment (SBIRT) with local medical community.

·         Promote Above The Influence campaign focusing on youth.

·         Implement the Domino Strategy to educate and define responsible drinking in our community.

·         Expand Parent Network throughout Sheboygan County.
