Healthy Sheboygan County 2020 (HSC2020) is a community – based initiative seeking to make positive changes in the health status of Sheboygan County by 2020. The HSC2020 mission is to improve the health of the people of Sheboygan County leading to a community with "Everyone Living Better, Longer."
The vision is accomplished by following the following objectives:
- Increasing the community's awareness of public health issues specific to Sheboygan County;
- Identifying existing resources through organizations, agencies, citizen groups, and health care providers addressing specific public health issues;
- Forming meaningful, action oriented coalitions of existing resources to reduce fragmentation effort in addressing Sheboygan County quality of life issues;
- Mobilizing our community's residents in taking responsibility for adopting healthier lifestyles.
Convened by the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health, the HSC2020 Steering Committee consisting of public health, local health care agencies, schools, businesses, and community representatives, was formed in 1993 with a restructuring in 2004 and 2011.
Community health committees have been created based on a careful assessment of the community's needs and input of county residents. Currently four community health committees address the following issues:
- Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse (AODA)
- Mental Health
- Health Literacy
- Activity and Nutrition
HSC2020 sets targets for health improvement for all the chosen health priorities and published the targets. Many of the health priorities identified involve lifestyle choices that require individual change with community support.
